What Savvy Business Travelers Keep in their Carry-Ons

Introhive | images 1 | What Savvy Business Travelers Keep in their Carry-Ons

Business travel is hated by many and loved by few. It sounds like sugar plums and lollipops to people new in their careers but after racking up the frequent flyers points and seeing the inside of one too many hotel rooms, it can become redundant. Don’t get me wrong, seeing clients face to face and attending conferences can be rewarding but the delays, plane food, taxi cabs and chatty seat mate can become a bit much.

So how can you make business travel bearable and somewhat enjoyable? Bring things that make your life better and easier. Here are six things I’d never travel without:

Tablet or Laptop

This is your source for both effectiveness and entertainment. When you’re sitting in the airport waiting for your flight, it’s a great time to pull out your device and start working on some of the things that may have gotten away from you earlier in the day. Additionally, your laptop or tablet should also be fully loaded with quality eBooks or articles that you’ve been dying to read.

Filtration Water Bottle

I personally use a bottle called “bobble” which is a reusable bottle that filters water as you drink. Not only does this make sense financially, but it also makes a difference for both convenience and the environment. Rather than buying a bottle of water before heading onto a four hour flight and trying to flag down the flight attendant for a mini-cup of water, I can use my existing water bottle and fill it from any tap I can find.

Snacks on Snacks on Snacks

Whether it’s candy, almonds or dried fruit – you can never have enough snacks in your carry-on. Sometimes during layovers or when you’re stuck in the back of a cab in the middle of rush hour traffic, you get a sudden urge to eat something. Carrying snacks allows you to grab a bite while on the go and without making you go out of your way to find something filling to chew on. It’s efficient and if planned right, it can be both healthy and delicious.

Phone & Laptop Chargers

The flashing “20% battery life” notification always knows how to hit you when you least expect it. A lot of people make the mistake putting their chargers in their suitcase that gets checked with luggage but that’s a rookie mistake. Always carry both your phone and laptop charger with you so you can be fully charged before and after takeoff.

Spare Change of Clothes

The weather is rarely on my side when I travel. Carrying an extra set of clothes in your carry on is a sure-fire way to ensure if you are stuck in a different city for an extra night, you’re not stuck wearing the same clothes. Beyond the chance of having to spend an extra night, an extra set of clothes is also helpful if you spill something on yourself. Additionally, an extra T-shirt or pair of pants doesn’t have to take up a lot of space and can be a good cushion for your other items.

What do you always carry in your carry on when travelling for business?
